Have eaten at this spot at least 25 times which says it all. Appetizers: The three best are: The mussels, the mussels, the mussels! We have had them at other restaurants but only one or two others even come close! There's also the Scampi Limoncello (which, when sided with a salad) is a very nice meal. The chicken meatballs marinara are super but then again most of the dishes are. All the pasta dishes are excellently prepared.
Overall the dishes range from good to outstanding.
Wine: Good choices and very decent "pour" by the glass.
Large room frequently with large, noisy parties, some of whom think they are at home and can be as loud as they like. Best bet is to time your visits to avoid the crowds. There is an outside area to eat in good weather, but it borders on the parking lot so it's not much to see. No tableclothes either.
If you come at appropriate times though, it's ok.
Depends on who you get and how busy the restaurant is. Unlike the food, the service is inconsistent. ranging from fair to excellent. Greeting and seating people are very pleasant. The very few times we had a complaint, it was taken care of immediately and appropriately. One time the usually incredible mussels just weren't right. We sent them back and the kitchen immediately delivered delicious calamari AND sent another batch of mussels which were outstanding as usual. (No charge).
Excellent value. Given the quality of the food and the price, the portions are not to be believed. Often we take much home, and enjoy it a day or two later. Further, it retains its "goodness", indicating that the food is quite fresh.
We are so happy we live nearby this restaurant. It is our "comfort" place when we just want to sit down and enjoy a good meal, a nice cocktail (they are big), or a glass of good wine. Dress is quite casual. Obviously Friday and Saturday evenings during dinner hours can be trying and so can the wait. No reservations unless you are six or more. In short though if you like good food, we recommend this place.
Many choices to pick from but disappointing quality. Thick tough slabs of chicken cutlets. Hour and a half wait and inattentive service. I will never go back.
The atmosphere was fine. Outdoor dining. Clean in appearance.
Waited a hour and a half. They tried to squeeze 7 people at a table for six and tried to take away the small end table. Disappointing.
Large portions which we would have gladly sacrificed for better quality.
Mediocre meal and not worth the long wait.
I have eaten at his restaurant on many occasions, finding the food, from appetizer to dessert, excellent on each and every occasion.
I view this restaurant as a perfect place to dine with one's family. It has reasonably quiet surroundings with the help being quite respectful of the patrons.
Again, the servers are very knowledgable of the menu's contents and readily able to alter the dish contents if asked. I myself, have yet to find a reason for stating a complaint. The time period from order to serving was very reasonable and timely.
Having eaten in many Italian style restaurants across this nation, I return to Butera's consistently for the quality, the excellent service, and the varied menu food served.
I couldn't get a better Italian style meal in Italy. Their cooks/chefs deserve a round of applause along with the service staff.
